The effectiveness of insulation and its shielding properties is based on what is known as its R-Value. The exclusive objective of insulation material is to keep heat from flowing through it. The better the insulation material, i.e. how much heat it stops, will result in it having a higher R-Value.

When compared to fiberglass batt insulation, spray foam insulation has a higher R-value at a given thickness. In other words, 2 inches of spray foam will insulate your roof better than 2 inches of fiberglass batts.

Another insulation type which is known as cellulose fill whether it is blown in or applied by hand, also has a higher R-value than fiberglass insulation of the same thickness. This still doesn’t compare to the R-value of spray foam insulation though, as it is almost twice as high as the cellulose fill insulation of a comparable thickness.

Although the R-value is an important statistic in determining how well a type of insulation works, it isn’t the only factor you must consider when choosing which is the best roof insulation for your home. If moisture gets into your fiberglass batt insulation or your cellulose fill, it will severely reduce the R-value of these materials. Just a small amount of moisture is enough to cancel out the insulating properties of fiberglass batt and cellulose.

With both cellulose and fiberglass you are always going to end up with some type of gap or space that didn’t get covered. The fact that heat is allowed to pass through these gaps is obvious, but these facts are not computed into the R-values of these two materials. This will ultimately bring us to the conclusion that the R-value of both fiberglass batt material and cellulose fill material are both less than what is claimed.

Benefits of Spray Foam Insulation

Moisture does not have any type of effect on spray foam insulation. In fact, it can stop minor leaks because, when it is applied, spray foam insulation spreads to fill every gap and seal your roof. If for some reason your home is exposed to pollutants or other harmful airborne things, your foam insulation will effectively keep it out whereas the gaps that are left behind with the fiberglass and cellulose will let it through.

The best part of spray foam insulation is the fact that it isn’t really anymore expensive than your traditional insulation materials.

Spray on insulation can in reality be a way better investment than any of your traditional insulation material so there is no reason not to go there if you are looking to insulate anyhow. Do it the right way. You can start by visiting http://sprayfoaminsulationkits.com
